Thripunithura : CPI(M) expects a fair outcome on Ayodhya and Sabarimala reviews pending before the Supreme Court, the party General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said in his keynote address on Tuesday. He was chief guest at the seminar on “Ayodhya-Sabarimala Verdict and Constitution” organized by EMS Study Centre in Ernakulam’s Thripunithura.
The Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the Citizenship Amendment Bill on Monday saying it meant to correct errors of the historic past. BJP and RSS have shown their true colours by putting constitutional establishments under duress, in order to promote RSS scheme for the nation, he said.
In Ayodhya Context, the top court that pronounced both the razing of Babri Masjid and placing idol inside its premises as criminal offences, ironically handed the property to its alleged offenders, Yechury said. There is no mention of destroying a temple earlier to build Masjid over in the ASI Survey. All this accounts for the widespread discontent and criticism over the Supreme Court verdict on Ayodhya, Yechury said.
Coming to the women entry issue, Yechury said the Congress and BJP who welcomed the Sabarimala verdict initially flip-flopped on their stand later. Explaining the state govt move post last year’s verdict, the leader pointed out that a govt that takes office following oath on the Constitution, is bound to abide by Supreme Court verdict. The apex court Bench have now pulled in practices of other religions into the issue, complicating matters further, the leader added.
In both cases, the CPI(M) expects a verdict that imbibes constitutional values of the nation, Yechury said.
The Study Centre chairman CN Mohanan presided over the function. CM Dinesh delivered opening remarks welcoming guests and CB Devadarshanan the closing note.
