NEW DELHI : Referring to police shootings in the infamous gangrape-murder case in Hyderabad, CPI(M) General Sitaram Yechury said “Extra-judicial killings cannot be the answer to serious concerns over the safety of women. Civilised societies must secure the lives and dignity of its citizens”
“Justice can never be retribution.” Yechury said.
The leader expressed deep concern over rising crimes against women across the country. “Why is the tough law put in place after the 2012 Nirbhaya case, not being implemented effectively?” Yechury asked.
The police on Friday morning gunned down four men accused of gangraping and killing tje 26-year-old veterinary doctor in Hyderabad on 29 Nov. Police claimed opening fire when the suspects attempted to flee the crime scene, where they were brought to build evidence.
The women’s death had sparked widespread protests against rising assaults against women.
