Thiruvananthapuram : Famous musician Parashala Ponnammal has died aged 97. The end came early this morning at her residence in Valliyashala.
Ponnamal was the first student of Swathi Thirunal College of Music and later became its first woman principal. She was also the first woman to be able to sing at the renowned Padmanabhaswami Navaratri Sangeetamela. She retired from RLV Music College in Thripunithura. She learned unde Shemmankudi Sreenivasa Iyer and is recipient of Kerala Sangeeta Nadaka Academy Award.
Ponammal was born to Headmaster Mahadev Iyer and Bhagawati Ammal in Parshala village in 1924. She was honoured with Padmasree four years back.
