Thiruvnanthapuram : Hundreds thronged to bid farewell to CPI(M) veteran Anathalavattom Anandan as his mortal remains were cremated at Shantikavadam in the capital at 5 o’clock Friday evening with full State honours.
The mourning procession with body of the leader that pioneered politics for the workers class over six decades, began from CITU State Committee office where it was laid for public viewing before being kept at AKG Centre for last respects CPI(M) State Secretary MV Govindan, ministers and leaders attended the funeral at Shantikavadam.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan paid homage to Anathalavattom Anandan at AKG Centre. Hundreds including prominent figures paid their last respects here.
Anathalavattom passed away Thursday evening while under hospitalisation for age-related ailments at Trivandrum Medical College. He was member of CPI(M) State Secretariat since 2009 and the state president and national vice president of CITU until now.
