New Delhi : The nation laid to rest its top-most defence official General Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat with full state honours on Friday. The General’s two daughters Kritika and Tarini paid tributes, joined by other close kin for rites, at Brar Square crematorium, where large crowd congregated outside hours before the mortal remains arrived.
Attending dignitaries included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Law Minister Kiren Rijju, Ambassador of France to India Emmanel Lenain, and British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis.
Bigadier LS Lidder, also one among the 12 victims, was cremated with full military hnours at the same crematorium. His teen daughter and wife Geetika Lidder partook in the rites.
The Rawats and 11 others were killed in helicopter crash between Coimbatore and Wellington in Tamil Naduu on Wednesday, minutes before its scheduled landing at the Wellington military base.
The lone survivor, Group Captain Varun Singh is being treated at military hospital in Wellington.
