Gross Injustice Done To Farmers Under Right-wing Governments; Centre Should Take A More Benevolent Stance: CM

Thiruvananthapuram:It would be a fallacy for centre to attempt crushing farmer’s protests instead of meeting their just demands, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Around the country, the agitation that began over the pro-corporate laws is getting stronger by day. The protests called jointly by various farmers’ organisation have earned enormous public backing. Realising how the farmers’ movement is in the larger interests of the society, scores of people from general public have directly joined these protests or are lending indirect support.

It is futile to try subduing protesters. By making mass detention of their leaders or placing them under house arrests or manhandling the protesters will not stall farmers’ fury. Such undemocratic exercises will only serve to up public backing for the farmers. The centre should try to understand the fair demands  of the farming community and make an effort to meet them.

Right from the onset of globalisation, the right-wing governments have subjected farmers to gross injustice. Our country owes it to protect the farmers from corporate exploitation and cut-throat market completion. Our community as a whole should provide backing for their struggle. Each of us should come forward for the cause, said CM.
