New Delhi : Even as UP Assembly elections become due in a year’s time, farmer protests are spilling over to its eastern districts. Protests have garnered strength in the east over and above farmers agitation in the west region, said Samyukta Kissan Morcha. The organisation also called for farmers' meetings in all district on 17th towards making Bharat Bandh of 27th a big success.
85 farmers’ organisations had participated in a meeting convened recently in Lucknow. Preparedness meetings were also held toward Bharat Bandh in other states as well. Kissan parliament shall be held in Rajasthan’s Jaipur.
In Himachal Pradesh, apple farmers have begun their protest against government demanding that it fixed minimum support price for their produce. Currently Adani Agri Fresh is procuring apple at Rs 78 per kilo for A grade quality of the fruit as against Rs 88 of last year. Tomato, potato and onion farmers too have raised protests demanding support prices similarly for their harvests too.
The Human Rights Commission issued notices to U.P, Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan citing that farmers’ protests are bound to disrupt businesses and transportation. Over 9000 business enterprises shall be impacted adversely, said the notice.
