KOCHI : Police on Saturday registered case against four social workers including Firoz Kunumparambil for allegedly attempting to extort a share from charity monies a woman received for her mother’s liver transplant. The others arraigned by Cheranallur police include Sajan Kecheri, Salam, and Safidh. The charges include issuing threats, harassment and insulting on social media.
On June 24, Varsha appeared on Facebook live seeking help for her mother’s health condition that required urgent liver transplant. And, Thrissur native Sajan Kecheri reached out to Varsha, offering help. As the money pouring into the account swelled, charity workers demanded joint facility for the bank account. Varsha rejected the proposition and has been receiving threat ever since, she said. They also got several women to make phone calls seeking help for their medical situations, Varsha added.
Incidentally, Firoz was was booked by Women’s Commission in a suo motu case for derogating woman, a KSU activist, on his Facebook live late last year.
