Flames of Memory : Koothuparambu Martyrdom Turns 25 Today

KANNUR : Blaze from the all-burning memories at Koothuparambu touches 25 years today,

Comrades in thousands  will  congregate  at the martyrdom memorial at Koothuparambu, to commemorate the ultimate sacrifice of  the young lives that refused to be defeated by bullets.

The day will revive  memories of eternal martyrs K K Tajeevan, KV Roshan, Shibulal, C Babu and K Madhu.

Commemoration rallies and meetings will mark the day at five martyr villages of Kannur. The torches  from  altars there, will be carried to bring the flames to  Koothuparambu memorial.

CPI(M) Politburo member Vrinda Karat, will inaugurate the commemoration ceremony being held at Koothuparambu Municipal stadium at 5 pm today.

It was on this day, 25 years ago, on 25 Nov 1994 that, the five DYFI workers laid their lives to resist UDF govt’s attempt to commoditise education.

Without any provocation whatsoever, the police opened fire at peaceful protesters in Koothuparambu, when Minister MV Raghavan arrived there to inaugurate an urban bank.

Pushpan, who survived the martyrdom, lies paralysed to date.. Over two hundred Left workers felll victims to brutal police violence,
