ANGAMALI : In a dream come true for families without a home of their own, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate a housing complex at Angamali , handing over keys to 12 beneficiary families on Saturday, 5 pm.
The Angamali corporation spent Rs 1.27 crores towards construction of these flats - a project it wrote into its scheme for the year. The land measuring 15 cents, was donated by Menachery Papalia couple. Bult-up space covers an area of 7,500 sq ft in all.
The housing complex comprises 12 flats measuring 650 sq ft each. There are 99 families on the Corporation list who own neither land nor a house of their own. Of them 12 are being handed an apartment each in the first phase of the project. The Corporation aims to provide houses for all those remaining, as land becomes available for the same.
Earlier, the Corporation provided homes for families belonging to the scheduled caste, in a three-storey housing complex it built for the community. The Corporation also disbursed 30 Lakhs for the landless in order purchase property. The Corporation built 366 houses by including Public Planning Scheme, LIFE and PMAY into its housing scheme. It also built 20 houses for families left homeless in the flood aftermath.
