Thiruvananthapuram : 5000 BPL families in State will enjoy free internet connectivity within weeks from now. These families have been selected from the list prepared by respective local bodies.
In each constituency, where K-Fon point of presence makes connectivity easier, 100 families from the financially weak section shall be provided internet in the first phase. The families belonging to SC and ST segments would have a 10 and 3 percent quota each.
In regions where there be no ST families the set aside quota will get added to SC bracket and reverse. If there be no SC or ST families in a constituency, connections will go entirely to the BPL families there.
Except for places where construction is disrupted owing to road works, the govt aims to ensure internet connectivity for all government offices and institutions before 31 March.
