THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Ration distribution went about smoothly as per planned target, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday. Of the total 87,29,000 ration card holders, 84,45,000 households, have taken delivery of free rations, said CM. That in effect translates to 96.66 percent of beneficiaries receiving relief. In quantum terms, 1,40,272 metric tonnes of rice and 14,007 metric tonnes wheat have been distributed.
Rice and wheat supplies meant for May distribution have already reached ration outlets. Also, free rations as per Centre’s scheme commenced distribution yesterday, starting with households that hold yellow and pink cards. The process is expected to wind up on 26th.
On the 27th, ration outlets across the state will commence distribution of provision kits to pink cardholders. Incidentally, the priority section comprising yellow cards have already received the kits earlier. Approx 31 lakh families hold pink cards, the kit distribution for whom when over, shall see provisions pack being given to other categories.
Certain regulations have been put in place to prevent crowd at ration shops. Last 2 digits of cards will determine dates to collect rations between the 22nd and 26th of this month. The order would be, card’s ending with digit 1,2 on 22nd ; 3, 4 on 23rd; 5,6 on 24th ; 7,8 on 25th and 9.0 on 26th. Provision kit distribution for pink card holders from 27th too will be paced similarly, except that cards with last digits 0,1 will be taken up on first day and so forth, said CM.
