KOCHI : Muslim League MLA, KM Shaji ‘s latest argument - an attempt to mellow conspiracy thrown up by his Facebook post - left his party senior MK Muneer run for cover.
KM Shaji in his FB post urged people against making contributions to Chief Minister’s Disaster Fund Relief, claiming the funds were being utilised to conduct litigations. The post went viral and kicked up a storm. Confronted for facts at a press meet, MK Shaji ducked saying all he meant was that govt was spending funds. Incidentaly, his next argument, albeit in desperation, left League leader MK Muneer red in the face.
Money from Chief Minister’s Fund, said MLA KM Shaji, was used to pay off debts incurred by family of a deceased MLA Little did the legislator remember that MK Muneer, seated beside at that time, had himself pursued studies with money granted from Chief Minister’s fund.
Muneer’s father and Muslim League leader, CH Muhammed Khoya had served as Kerala CM, albeit for just a few weeks. Upon his death, long term financial aid for the family including Muneer’s educational expenses were borne from monies taken from CM’s Disaster Fund.
Muneer, who at that time was student at a private medical college that offered payment seats for aspiring medicos, had all his fees paid by the state government, which also gave him pocket money for campus life. Regional newspapers then had covered the story (see below).
സി എച്ച് മുഹമ്മദ് കോയയുടെ കുടുംബത്തിനു ധനസഹായം അനുവദിച്ച വാര്ത്ത (1983 ഒക്ടോബര് 25)
For Muneer, boons did not stop there. Later the state govt made interventions to transfer him from his private college at Mangalapuram to Kozhikode Medical College.
And now, most unnecessarily, KM Shaji’s desperate argument to cover a fallacy, has resurrected all those once-upon-a-time hushed happenings to the forefront on social media.
Incidentally, PK Kunjalikutty, who met with reporters after Shaji’s dialogues, eluded queries on state funding history relating to Muneer’s education and family.
