Kochi : Opposition staged protest at Thrikkakara Municipality against the chairperson, for having given away "cash gift"  to select Councillors,  alongwith the  Onakodi. LDF members held sit-in in front of the hall leaving chairperson Ajitha Thankappan stranded and unable to make it to the hall. A meeting was later held in the President’s chamber, Ajitha told reporters. The Secretary had however stayed away from the meeting.

The presence of a corrupt chairperson can’t be allowed at a meeting convened  for discussing development in the municipality, said LDF demonstrators. The chairperson who handed money pouches should tender resignation, they added. LDF is preparing to spread the protest with sit-ins outside the Municipality compound.

Context : Thrikkakara Municipal Chairperson Ajitha Thankappan reportedly gifted Rs 10,000 in cash to a few councilors along with the traditional Onakodi last week.
