Thiruvananthapuram : The goal is development, not controversy, said PWD Minister Mohamed Riyas. The minister was replying to media query on opening of Kuthiran tunnel. It is unfortunate there is constant news claiming the second tunnel has been inspected and there would be toll levied for it. The tunnel shall be laid open partly for the public from 12 pm afternoon, said the minister.

The second tunnel is being opened for traffic diversion purposes alone. There would be no toll imposed. Decision in this regard will be made after discussions, the minister said.

The National Highway Authority of India(NHAI) should check giving out news on its own. It should all refrain from taking unilateral decision. Te government does not move along that line, said the minister.

The decision is take forth all developmental activities  together. It would do good for NHAI to be consulting the state govt too on the matter. The public too must be taken into confidence, hence unilateral decision should be avoided, the minister said.

Meanwhile, the Revenue Minister K Rajan also voiced concern over unilateral decision making trend on part of NHAI, saying, it was not the right thing to do. Any decision should be informed to the Collector and MLAs . Failing to do so is unacceptable. There would be more talks held in this regard, said Minister Rajan.
