Kochi: While saffron affinity is getting hard to contain for Congress, the latest practically placed Mahatma Gandhi and Savarkar in picture-perfect alignment.
In the incident, Savarkar, the Hindutva ideologue charged as conspirator in Gandhi assassination case, appeared among tall leaders on Congress Billboard at the reception for Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. The not-so-surprising incident happened in Chengamanad where the Congress Mandala Committee, on the national highway at Kottai near Nedumbassery, erected a mammoth arch with picture of the Sangh ideologue susected of planning Gandhi assasination VD Savarkar, to welcome Rahul’s yatra.
As resentment grew, a photo of Mahatma Gandhi was hung to cover Savarkar's picture. Incidentally, this controversial banner was installed close to the residence of Congress MLA Anwar Sadhat in his constituency Aluva.
The banner was readied under leadership of former Panchayat president, Dileeo Kuprassery. With the incident gathering spotlight, a large sized Mahtma Gandhi picture was hastily fetched from somewhere by INTUC leader, Suresh Athani.
The Gandhi picture was then superimposed on Savarkar’s - an amusing anecdote where Savarkar was positioned to perfectly align behind Congress’s towering leader, Mahatma Gandhi.
