Kochi : Customs officials have begun questioning Janam TV coordinating editor, Anil Nambiar, for unusual interventions on his part in the gold smuggling case. The journalist is being quizzed at their headquarters in Kochi. Customs had recently issued notice to Anil Nambiar asking for his appearance before its probe team.
Phone records showing how Anil Nambiar spoke with Swapna Suresh – one of the main accused in the case – almost immediately after the smuggled gold was intercepted, was out at the very beginning in the case. Swapna later testified details of that call saying, Anil Nambiar had advised her to declare the contraband as private luggage instead of diplomatic baggage at the airport. Swapna, in her testimony has referred to Anil Nambiar’s involvement on three pages in her account.
Incidentally, Anil Nambiar is also faces charges in another case during his stint with Janam TV where, he allegedly fabricated fake documents against then minister KV Thomas for derailing litigation.
