Kozhikode : An Eranjikal native from Kozhikode is the latest to be arrested in connection with the gold smuggling case being probed by NIA. The man, identified as 39-year-old Sanju Vinayan is a resident of Thaazhe Madeth. Sanju role ivolved selling the precious metal to various jewelers and encashing the smuggled gold. A squad from Customs Preventive Division from Kozhikode nabbed Sanju, following instructions from Kochi Commissionerate.
The accused has been transported to Kochi and is being presently questioned at Customs headquarters there. According to investigators, Sanju is partner at Miami Convention Centre located in Ernjikala. DRI has in the past, booked Sanju’s brother and father-in-law on charges of smuggling gold. Following revelations made by prime accused, Sandeep Nair, the Customs carried out raids at select jewelry shops in Kozhikode.
Two jewelers, associates of Rameez, were arrested earlier in the day - the SS Jewelry owner TM Muhammad(43), residing at Tharamannil Veedu and Sailthalvi aka Bava(58) from Edkanan Veedu in Vengara.
