Thiruvananthapuram ; The governor’s stand on the VC appointment controversy is suspicious, said CPI(M) State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. What is behind it? It is governor who should shed light on that. On its part, the government does not wish any confrontation with the governor, said Kodiyeri.
The government facilitated everything conducive for independent function of the governor in state and it is the government wish that he continues to work as the chancellor. In saying that political pressure will not be allowed, does not the governor also mean he will not subject himself to political pressures? An issue between the government and governor should be talked for resolved by the two themselves. The government shall carry out its function ensuring the rights and powers of the governor are preserved.
It is not the government that makes recommendation for VC appointment. It comes from a Search Committee approved by the governor himself and comprises university representatives, UGC representatives and government representatives. It is the Search Committee that came by a a name and that too in total consensus. If however, recommending of three names is a must, the government may do that, the Search Committee decided – again, a decision that was an unanimous one. The Search Committee also decided it will provide a solo name if thats what the governor needs. In fact the Search Committee members say the governor asked for one name to be recommended instead of three. Some kind of problem relating to this might have cropped up causing this current controversy, said Kodiyeri.
