Govt Comes To Aid Of Fishing Sector; 1,59,481 Families To Receive Rs 3000 Each; Rs 47.84 Cr. Sanctioned

Thiruvananthapuram : The cabinet meeting on Wednesday decided to render monetary help to fisherfolks reeling from heavy rains and natural calamities. The meeting decided for remittance of  Rs 3000 to each of 1,59,481 families in the community for which, the government will set aside Rs 47.84 crores, informed Finance Minister KN Balagopal and Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian.

The relief money will come drawn from Chief Ministers Disaster Relief Fund(CMDRF).  Owing to heavy rains, the State Disaster Mgt Authority  clamped prohibition to fishing in months of October and November. Relief money will remitted to seagoing fish workers, inland fishermen and allied workers. The decision came about taking into account losses precipitated by Covid conditions.

Earlier, the government had sanctioned a paymetn Rs 1200 for all  workers in the fish sector who became hit by  losses owing to heavy rains.
