Govt. Doubles Compensation for Persons Killed in Wild Animal Attacks

Thiruvananthapuram > The Kerala Government today decided to double the compensation being given to next of kin of persons who lose their lives in attacks by wild animals, from Rs five lakh to rs 10 lakh.

The compensation for injuries, damage to dwellings, huts and agricultural fields has also been increased. The decision in this regard was taken at the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here. Necessary amendments will be made in the rules for the same, it was stated.

The next of kin of those who have lost their lives in the attacks by wild animals will get a compensation of rs 10 lakh from the previous Rs five lakh, an official release said. The compensation for snake bite deaths outside forest areas would be enhanced from Rs one lakh to Rs two lakh and those severely injured in such attacks, causing permanent physical deformities, will get compensation of upto Rs two lakh, it said. 

The financial assistance to those whose houses, huts, agricultural fields and cattle are destroyed in the attack by wild animals has been increased to Rs one lakh from Rs 75,000 now. Those who suffer injuries will get financial assistance of Rs one lakh, the release said.
