THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : The cabinet on Wednesday passed ordinance allowing government to hold back part of employee salaries in order to cope up with tough financial crisis resulting from Covid pandemic and lockdown. A provision in Kerala Disaster and Public Emergency Act permits withholding of up to 25 percent of employees’ salaries and leaves it to the discretion of govt to announce pay back any time during six months thereafter.
The High Court had earlier ruled against government’s notification to make such reservations, citing the move lacked backing from law.
