Kannur : Happening now in Manipur is genocide that the Central and State governments fail to stop, said Archbishop Joseph Pamplani. The iots have spread far and wide and Christian churches are being targeted. The scenario bears resemblance to Gujarat genocide on 2002, said Pamplani.
The Prime Minister goes to America and claims there is no discrimination. Question is, would he be able to tell the same thing to Christians of Manipur, asked Pamplani. Persecution of minorities is happening in other places as well, but in Manipur it is State-sponsored, the Bishop said.
Pamplani also criticised the Centre’s attempt to implement Uniform Civil Code. The legislation should be introduced in Legislative Assemblies and details made available to the people, the bishop said.
Interestingly, it was the Thalassery Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplani that pledged support for BJP if the central government intervened to raise rubber prices to Rs 300 and the bishop also promised to resolve BJP’s woe of not having an MP in Kerala, if the rubber farmers were helped with upped rates.
