Thalassery : The Thalassery Municipal Council on Friday rejected leave application from K. Ligesh, councilor and first accused in the killing of CPI(M) worker Haridasan. He had requested leave of absence for three months starting 3rd of March. The application was forwarded via Jail Superintendent at Kannur Central Jail, where Ligesh is currently lodged.
When Ligesh’s letter was tabled at the council meeting, majority members opposed. They pointed out Ligesh was in remand for committing the heinous murder of fish worker Haridaasan who was also the family’s sole bread earner and how the murder was perpetrated right in front of his wife. There is no need to consider leave application from an individual committing such gruesome crime, said several members and although BJP councilors spoke on side of Ligesh for the leave, the majority refuted.
Finally, the chairperson KM Jamunarani announced refusal of leave, as there appeared no fair reason for it, she said. At this, BJP councilors walked out the meeting in protest.
CPI(M) worker Haridasan was hacked to death in front of his family on Feb 21 around 1.30 am by a gang of RSS-BJP.
