Dalit Girl's Death: Polygraph Test For Family Members Runs Into Controversy

Lucknow: The UP government order warranting lie-detection test for family members of the 19-year-old girl  who died after being allegedly gangraped and tongue ripped off, has run into controversy.

Earlier came a report stating the girl was not raped. The current order for polygraph that comes close on heels of that surprise report has further aroused  suspicions of cover up.  Also, the police cordoned  the family off  from media and public. The victim family should not be tortured further, said Congress.

On September 14 the 19-year-old girl from Hathras district, 200 km from Delhi, was found by the wayside gravely injured and her tongue ripped off. She was initially admitted to the taluk hospital and moved to Delhi’s AIIMS when her condition deteriorated. She died after 2 weeks after which police forcefully cremated the girl in the middle of a night without family’s consent.

Suspending officials will stop ongoing protest, said Priyanka Gandhi.
