Thiruvananthapuram : With heavy to very heavy rains forecast for the state, Orange Alert has been issued for 11 districts tomorrow and for 12 the day after. Districts put on Orange Alert tomorrow are Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur. The 12 districts with Orange Alert for Thursday are Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad.
While rains are forecast across the state there could be very heavy rains at isolated places, stated IMD. On the 23rd, districts of Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad will go under Yellow Alert. As some areas that received rains in past few days are likely to be battered with more, authorities have advised high vigil for residents living in low plains, by river sides and in hilly terrain prone to mudslides and landslides.
In regions that witnessed landslides, mudslides or flooding in 2018,2019,2020, or might have been identified as disaster-prone area by Geological Survey of India or National Disaster Management Authority, the residents, local self-govt bodies and other government agencies are required to exercise advance precautionary measures in view of impending rains.
