Kochi: With low pressure buildup over Arabian seas following depression in the Bay of Bengal, rains have intensified in state. Heavy downpours and strong winds are forecast for central Kerala and up the northern district. Yellow alert has been sounded for Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod.
Winds gusting up to 65 kmph are likely to hit Kerala coasts, the Indian Meteorological Dept(IMD) predicted. Sea incursions are a high possibility and fishermen have been prohibited from taking to seas up to the 16th.
There were wide damages owing to heavy rains reported from several places in Ernakulam. Houses were partially destroyed in Thahapally, Karingathuruth and Teeracode. Trees fell uprooted in stretches here.
In the village of Kannathunad, several houses were damaged from trees falling over. An unended electric post resulted in power outage too.
