Thiruvananthapuram : The IMD(Indian Meteorological Dept forecast possibility for heavy rains in state today. Following this, four districts have been put on Red Alert namely, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki. It is Orange Alert for the districts of Kottayam and Ernakulam.
The forewarning includes likelihood of high winds with speeds of 40 - 45 kmph that could potentially gust up to 55 in isolated incidents. Authorities cautioned residents on very heavy downpours especially to those living in low-lying areas, riversides and places vulnerable to land and mudslides.
Districts from Thrissur to Kasaragod are on Yellow Alert.
The IMD prohibits fishing off coasts of Kerala up to 9 September and that of Lakshadweep today.
