Kochi : The High Court on Saturday revoked bail granted to client of High Court Bar Association president, Saiby Jose, in the case, where the lawyer was found to have accepted Rs 50 lakh from defendents, on fake pretext of bribing the judge for a favourable verdict. Two bail orders for which Adv Saiby appeared were revoked.
The rare revocation, from Justice Ziyad Rehman comes on finding that the complainant’s side of the case was not heard. The case filed under Scheduled Castes Scheduled Tribes(Prevention of Atrocities Act) for allegedly humiliating the petitioners using caste slur. There were a total of 11 persons who got bail in different cases. The bail granted to Baiju Sebastin from Ranni’s Malampuzha and Jija Varghese on April 29,2022 were repealed today. The hearing of bail plea has been adjured.
The incident surrounding the case dates back to October 21 in 2021. On that day, during arguments over an access route dispute, the accused alleged berated Placheri Babu and other plaintiffs using caste slurs.
At first, names of the petitioners were omitted from the bail plea. Later on inclusion, the Circle Inspector was entrusted with serving the notice. However, the plaintiffs never received the notices and bails became granted exparte.
