Thiruvananthapuram : Edamon-Kochi power highway, the solution to Kerala’s energy crisis, is all set for inauguration on 18 November.
The project is being dedicated to the state after successful line charging, a process that began 25 September.
The project completed by Powergrid Corporation, enables Kerala to now receive power from any part of the country through its 400 KV transmission network. The state also saves hugely from reduced transmission loss.
The beleaguered project that dragged through a decade had come to a standstill until the present govt came to power. The administration worked meticulously towards removing numerous roadblocks, paving way for its completion, witnessed today.
On day one of charging, Kerala experienced drastic boost in its energy sector. It is like Edamon-Kochi Power Highway has equipped Kerala with a new power plant of minimal 500 MV capacity, the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan remarked on the occasion.
Palakkad, Kochi and Kottayam saw an immediate increase of 2 KV on the average. The new corridor has also helped proportionate e load reduction along Udmalpet-Palakkad and Mysore-Airkode inter-state lines.
Earlier when the state faced acute shortage during summer and purchased its power from outside, the hassle of not being able to reach it efficiently remained.
With the new power corridor in place, transmission loss owing to rounabout route, too stands hugely reduced.
