Kochi : The High Court on Thursday ruled that homicide charges against IAS officer Sriram Venkitraman can be sustained in the case where journalist KM Basheer was killed, hit by the officer’s car.
The court ruling was spelt by Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas on admitting government’s revision petition in the case. Wafa Feroze was relieved from the case following her plea seeking clearance.
Thiruvananthapuram bureau chief of Siraj daily, KM Basheer, died after car that Sriram rode hit him while standing by his bike on the roadside. The car was overspeeding and there was speculation that the IAS officer was inebriated. At the time of fatal hit, Sriram’s friend Wafa Feroze was in passenger seat. The incident took place in dawn hours of 3 August, 2019.
