Thiruvananthapuram : Hospitals in the state are fully equipped to take on Covid surges projected to ride high in coming days. Oxygen and pediatric facilities have been upped on wide scale. 400 ICUs and High Dependency Units(HDU) bave been installed newly across Medical, District and Taluk hospitals. Also an 1588 beds and 381 ventilators have been added to in these hospitals. The add-ons are over and above the 3,107 ICUs and 2293 ventilators already available at govt hospitals. Then, there are 7468 ICUs and 2432 ventilators in the state’s private sector.
194 new ICUs have been installed over 25 Taluk and District hospitals and 146 HDUs across 10 govt hospitals. The new installation also includes 36 pediatric ICUs. 12 ICU with beds and HDUs have been installed at Thiruvananthapuram SUT, and Ernakulam Medical College. Distribution of 147 High-flow Ventilators are underway. Other Medical Colleges have been augmented with 239 ICU High Care Beds, 222 ventilators, 85 pediatric ICU beds, 51 pediatric ventilators, 878 oxygen beds and 113 ordinary beds. 1588 beds were newly installed as well. Liquid oxygen stocks have been upscaled. There are currently 1817.54 tonnes stock in reserve.
Doctors in quarantine rendering e-medicine services is highly commendable, said Health Minister Veena George. Home Care training will be imparted to RRT, Ward committee members, ASHA workers, local body staff and ICDS Workers at Anganwadis working under Women and Child Development, the minister said.
