From Rags to Riches; Ibrahim Kunju’s Massive Wealth Records Laid Before High Court

Kochi : A plea with  High Court urged the Bench to consider probe findings on former VK Ibrahim Kunju’s enormous wealth amassed during his stint as  MLA and UDF’s League Minister, while taking up hearings on the Palarivattom Flyover scam. The petition was submitted by Kalamassery native J Girishbabu.

Both Vigilance and Enforcement Directorate in their investigations on Ibrahim Kunju, the fifth accused in Palarivattom Flyover scam, came up on unaccounted wealth in massive proportions and are putting together pieces of the puzzle on their origin.  An ordinary party worker until 2001, Ibrahim Kunju was first elected to the Assembly in 2001. In his pre-poll declaration to the Election Commission, Ibrahim Kunju  stated he had no assets of his own. He was since elected thrice more into the Assembly and assumed ministership twice. Today, the Ibrahimkunj has properties and wealth running into crores by his name or that of his family members.

ð  Ibrahim Kunju and his son are owner-directors of Periyar Polymers that manufactures Sky Home mattresses. The annual income from the enterprise approximates to Rs 25 crore annually. 

ð The League veteran also owns Periyar Coir Production  sited in Pollachi. 

ð United Shopping Complex located on Palarivattom’s Janata Road belongs to Ibrahim Kunju and wife jointly. 

ð Highway Square shopping complex along Edapally bypass at Paidvattom is owned by Ibrahim Kunju and son. 

ð Together with son, Ibrahim Kunju is also owner to land and building at Aluva beach apart from two acre land at Alancode Panchayat there. 

ð He also owns land housing Hotel Gateway  near Nedumbasserry airport and has investments to the tune of Rs 500 crore in Hanal Trading based in Saudi’s Jeddah.
