Thiruvananthapuram : Eligibility conditions were eased to install BJP State President’s son into the Central establishment of Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology(RGCB) in Thiruvananthapuram.
Up until now, RGCB recruited only science postgraduates. On 8th December last year, the research centre invited applications for three vacancies including those in its technical department. And in an unexplained departure from its norm, RGCB asked for just a 60 percent in BTech Mechanical Engineering, as recruitment eligibility. There quickly surfaced accusation that job criterion was lowered, with no such precedent, only for sake of K Surendran’s son, Harikrishnan.
Eventrually, OMR tests were conducted on 25th of April, for all 48 candidates who applied. Of these 25 were selected and writing test followed, the evaluation of which was done in just a day’s time. Predictably, K Surendran’s son was among the four shortlisted who were forwarded for practical exam. In yet another quick paced move that followed, practical exam was held the very day next of 26th April. After this, there was no kind of information to any of the other candidates. In fact, not even the publishing of rank list was informed to them. Meanwhile, K Surendran’s son was directly appointed for the job on backward class quota.
Then, in a bid to hush-hush the whole matter, Haridas was sent away to Delhi on the pretext of specialized training. Incidentally, the research centres under the Centre fetches a minimum salary of Rs 70,000 including basic pay.
