Thiruvananthapuram : The new education policy for the country was announced on 29 July 2020 with direction for states to develop a framework for school curriculum, Education Minister V Sivankutty told the Assembly. Currently, all states are engaged in devising the curriculum framework.
Typically, a country’s education system seeks to raise a society that aligns with its Constitution. However criticism is rife that the national education policy of 2020 leaves out values envisaged by the Constitution – democracy and secularism for instance, the Minister said.
The curriculum revisal in Kerala is being done under these circumstances. In order to carry out the process in a transparent and democratic manner, 26 focus groups have been formed, comprising educational experts, university professors, college lecturers and school teachers both from outside and within Kerala. The standpoints on varied focus areas (position papers) are currently in their final stages of completion, the minister informed the house.
