Plantation Workers To Receive Rs 52 More in Wages Jan. 1, 2020

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : In their third  back—to-back increase, the growers agreed to raise Rs 52 in daily wages for their plantation workers beginning Jan. 1 2020.

The decision came about in Plantation Labour Committee meeting presided by Minister TP Ramachandran. The raise will apply to rubber, tea, coffee and cardamom segments. 

The workers were granted hike of Rs 50  in interim relief in February this year. The arrears towards this  will be cleared by March 2020, the minister said adding that, the arrears of previous spike up to Jan. 2019 shall be disbursed immediately. 

The minister urged to planters to make timely payments to the workers. The management should also review their leave,  provident fund and other  statutory benefits to ensure legal compliance, he said The workers unions and planters body should reach a mutual agreement on this,  Ramachandran added. 

Labour Commissioner CP Sajjan and Addl. Labour Commissionerd Ranjit Mohanan and K Shrilal too were at the tripartite talks held in Conference Hall at Labour Commissionerate on Friday.
