Oxygen Crisis Worsens: 25 Die in Hospitals of Delhi and Amritsar; 200 Critical

New Delhi  :At least 25 people have died in hospitals of Delhi and Amritsar for want of medical oxygen. Oxygen shortage is particularly acute at Moolchand,  Saroj and  Jaipur Golden hospitals in the capital. 20 people have died at Jaipur Golden hospital for want of oxygen and  over 200  patients in these hospitals remain in critical  condition awaiting supply.

5 people died owing to oxygen shortage at Neel hospital in Amritsar. It is now 48 hours that the hospital reported shortage of supply. Incidentally, despite these grim situations, the centre is unable to make deliveries at these places.

Moolchand hospital informed authorities of its oxygen stock exhausting in an hour’s time. Meanwhile,  an oxygen tanker  arrived at Batra hospital spelling brief respite.  The stock will empty in just 45 minutes, said hospital authorities there. Elsewhere, Saroj Hospital has stopped taking in patients altogether.

On the national front, new infections have surged once again inching close to  3.5 lakh. The country reported 3,46,786 fresh cases and 2624 deaths h in the past 24 hours.

Total confirmed cases in the pandemic so far stands at 1,66,10,481 while, 1,38,67,997 have recovered from the disease. The death-toll so far is 1,89,544,  and 25,52,940  remain under treatment.
