Infighting in Malappuram Escalates; League vs League Candidates in Several Wards

Malappuram: With local body elections closing in, infighting in Muslim League and unprecedented defiance of party leadership has got  rampant at several places in Malappuram. In several wards, Youth League office bearers  have put themselves out as candidates by dissolving party committees and election committees. And although League is attempting to patch up holes, not much is happening on the resolving front. Incidentally, terror elements are at  helm of dissent occurring at several places in the district. 

League against League in several wards
At Municipal Corporation in Thirur, League faces  the typical kind of dissent  - rebel from its own members. In ward no. 28 of Kottakkal municipality, wife of a Youth League member is contesting against League’s own candidate. And the League’s District leader is contesting polls at District Panchayat as LDF candidate. League’s former District Committee member and president of Karulayi panchayat, TK Abdullakutty,  is contesting against Ismail Muthedathil - the Muslim League District Secretary and party candidate at Chokkad District Panchayat Division.  In 4th Ward of Keezhatoor panchayat too, dissent is rife. Again, in ward 10 and 14 of Perinthalmanna municipality, League has its own members set against their candidate.

Kondatti
At 32nd ward in League’s Kondatti constituency, the League General secretary is faced up with Youth League Municipal Presdident EM Rasheed.  And, in the 38th ward there, former panchayat member EM Oomen has filed nomination papers and Congress has fielded it’s own separate candidate.

Kottakkal
In Kottakkal municipal corporation, the ward committee members boycotted the candidate selection meeting as soon as League declared candidates there. Youth League was irked by the decision to field woman Municipal Vice President as candidate once again. Youth League also said it will stay out of election campaign there.

Melattoor
Muslim League workers in Melattoor formed their own front in protest over ties with Welfare Party and declared their own candidate. The candidate is member of Muslim League panchayat member and vice president at 16th ward.

Perinthalmanna
In protest of MLA Manjalamkuzhi Ali’s decisions at Perinthalmanna municipal corporation, former Opposition member and STU Mandalam secretary  filed nomination papers  as rebel candidate. And in ward  10 of the corporation. his wife and incumbent councilor ,Suraya Fathuma, is contesting on similar lines.
