Govt. To Step UP Inspections At Gold Shops : CM

Thiruvananthapuram : There shall be stringent measures adopted to check tax evasion at gold shops,  said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday. Inspections shall be carried out on wider scale; also the sales tax department shall be strengthened for the purpose, said CM at the high-level meeting held in the capital.

In-depth inspections shall be conducted at shops suspected of evading sales tax.  GST registration shall be cancelled for shops that are found guilty of such malpractice. Employees effecting higher sales should be paid adequate incentives. The government is also exploring possibility of connecting CCTV at large showrooms to relevant police station, said CM.

Other speakers at the meeting comprised Finance Minister KN Balagopal, Chief Secretary Dr. VO Joy, Tax Secretary Sharmila Mary Joseph and State GST Commissioner Ratan Khelkar.
