Thiruvananthapuram : Governor Arif Mohammed Khan instructed Vice Chancellor to issue withdrawal order today itself for the 15 senate members named by him two days ago. The Governor’s direction to Vice Chancellor VP Mahadevan Pillai was sent via letter from Raj Bhavan. TheVC had earlier written to Governor urging to repeal decision for withdrawing the 15 nominated Senate members. The Governor’s written letter for immediate action comes in response to that request.

The Governor sounded withdrawal after 15 of his nominees failed to show up at the meeting convened by VC on 11th. The VC in his request letter pointed out such removal would be violative of rules.

To Raj Bhavan letter seeking immediate action, VC wrote to Governor pointing out that,  4 of the 15 are ex officio members and that they had in advance informed their inability to attend the meeting  hence there is no provision for their removal. The removal of the remaining cant be done merely based on information of Principal Secretary, read VC’s letter.

The VC further wrote how he cannot act on letter sent by the Governor’s Secretary and that a letter signed by Governor himself is essential for any course of action. Those rendered ineligible have moved official procedures for leave, hence seeking explanation from them would be contrary to rules, said VC further in his letter.
