Web Desk‌Updated: Thursday Jan 30, 2020

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : IAS officer Sriram  Venkitraman who went into suspension  over his involvement in a car crash that killed journalist KM Bashir, is set to remain there for some time more. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday signed the order extending the bureaucrat’s suspension for another three months.

Incidentally, Chief Secretary had recommended Sriram's reinstatement to CM last week. Though appointed as  Survey Director, Srirram was suspended before he could take that charge.

The suspension revolves around a car crash that took place on 3 August last year. Around 12.55 am that night, Sriram who was allegedly high on drinks and speed, crashed his car into KM Bashir who stood by the sidewalk,  talking on his cell phone, with his bike parked there. Bashir, Bureau Chief at Suraj daily, died instantly.

Sriram’s friend Wafa who owned the car was inside the vehicle at the time. Investigations are ongoing and  being done by Crime Branch.
