Kochi : The Judicial Commission is beginning its probe into the incident where central agencies alleged fabricated false documents to implicate Chief Minister and other ministers in the gold smuggling. Heading the commission is Justice VK Mohanan, who will also hear public say in the matter. A notification calling for information from public has be published. Members who might want to offer any tip, information or suggestion related to the case might submit affidavit thereof before 26 June. 'It is targeted to finish the probe at pace and hence, those who might have first-hand information should help with inputs,' the Commission said in its notification.
If there be persons, organisations or social activists interested to join the Commission’s probe, they must submit their applications in front of the Commission before 26 June either directly or through their lawyers /authorized persons. Persons submitting affidavits or information should also attach list of evidences and details of witnesses who they might think should be questioned. Commission sittings shall be held in Ernakulam, Kollam and other places as may be deemed necessary. The dates and venue of sittings shall be notified later.
The Commission will primarily focus on five aspects of the case including voice recording of gold smuggling accused Swapna Suresh and Sarith’s letter. Of these, Swapna Suresh’s voice clip is pivotal along with claims of conspiracy against Chief Minister and coerced testimonies that surfaced around that time. The Commission will look to see which officials coerced culprits to give scripted testimonies and who the alleged conspirators are. Based on its findings it will then submit a report to the government, along with recommended action against guilty officials.
