Justifying Congress : Muslim League Stand Might Not Be Very Convincing To People : CM

Web Desk‌Updated: Wednesday Mar 4, 2020

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Muslim League arguments in favour of Congress in context of CAA and other burning issues, does not appear very convincing to people, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.  It might be a good idea to justify one’s partner, so as to avoid suspicions while working together. However  the defense arguments don’t sit too right in public minds. CM was responding to criticism raised by Opposition during finance debate in the Assembly.

Communal forces have grown robust mostly owing to Congress’s take on BJP's communal passions.  Post independence, there have taken place  horrific communal riots in the country. These violent episodes, apart from causing losses, also polarised the society along communal lines. However Congress invariably failed to take any corrective step each time it occurred.  Incidentally,  the riots initiated by religious gurus at various times ended up benefitting  RSS and BJP. The Congress rulers simply lacked the  will to come in the way of  communal  forces   In keeping with that trend,  when BJP announced its  Ramajanma Bhoomi themed Ratha Yatra,  governments in Congress-ruled States provided fertile ground  for the rallies to rage through their regions.  The outcome was disastrous. In Delhi and  UP’s Meerut, meticulously planned riots broke loose targeting minorities on unprecedented scale.

Now this  strategy plays out in our local context too. For sake of four ministerial posts, the Muslim League,  comes out with justifications for Congress’s inappropriate attitude.

CPI(M)’s approach to Congress has been consistently clear. With that grounded firmly, CPI(M) declared BJP -  the party nourishing communal hatred – as its biggest enemy. In the past, the Left  did back 1st UPA government, but only from the outside. This helped to reign in  several of Congress’s anti-people policies.  The Left was however careful to support the government's  public welfare policies  like the Employment Guarantee scheme and so forth.  CPI(M) later withdrew its support for UPA, when the  government put American interests before the welfare of the nation. . The second coming of UPA govt saw anti-people being carried out with great frenzy which was ultimately its undoing and paved way for BJP rule in the country. This is  a fact that people wont foregt easily, said CM.
