Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala’s dream project, the K-FON, is advancing at quick pace. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the project operations on 5th of July. The project will fetch free internet connections to 20 lakh families in the State. Works are underway to have all government institutions connected to a single internet network.
Scores of homes have begun to avail free connectivity under the project already, the amed target being 14,000 households in the first phase. Also to be connected in this phase are : 18,700 govt institutions.
Internet A Citizen Right
Kerala is India’s only state to have declared internet connectivity as citizen’s right. K-FON will end the digital disparity currently experienced in Kerala. Project K-FON will lay foundations to Kerala goal of connecting with the Information Highway and become a knowledge economy and IT Hub.
