Kannur : KPCC President K Sudhakaran’s driver Prashant Babu implicated him in corruption deals during his tenure under UDF government. As Forest Minister, Sudhakaran facilitated sandalwood smuggling, said Prashant. Sudhakaran was criminalising political space. He is involved in corruption amounting to Rs 32 crores, said Prashant Babu. The ex-driver claimed his accusations were based on solid evidences in his possession.
Meanwhile, Vigilance has recommended in-depth probe against Sudhakaran based on its findings in the complaint on disproportionate wealth owned by the Congressman. The Vigilance completed its preliminary probe against complaint lodged by Prashant Babu, who accused Sudhakaran of perpetrating corruption worth Rs 32 crore relating to the K Karunakaran Trust. Prashant further claimed the said evidences were handed to him by none other than leaders themselves, including Mambaram Divakaran.
Vigilance submitted its findings so far to the government seeking sanction for detailed probe. In-depth investigations are necessary to buildup evidence in the case, said Vigilance in its report. Meanwhile it has sought expert advice to see if there might be legal blockade to such probe.
Sudhakaran is accused of corruption relating to K Karunakaran Trust, Kannur DCC Office decision and acquiring illegal wealth. Prashant Babu lodged his complaint with Vigilance shortly after Sudhakaran too charge as KPCC Presient in June.
