Kannur : KPCC President K Sudhakaran’s palatial house measures more than 12,000 sq ft. This apart, he also has two outhouses sized over 200 sq ft in the compound. The figures d were given out by the Corporation and Revenue Dept.
The house construction began without securing permission from the Corporation and statutory procedures for the structure was completed only in July of 2021 i.e. right before K Sudhakaran assumed post as KPCC President.
The house measuring 12,247 sq feet is located in Edkad Zone of Kannur Corporation in Nattal. If outhouses be accounted for, the measure climbs to 12,647 sq ft. If the construction cost be raken as 2000 rupees per sq. ft, the construction costs run well above 2.5 crores. Interiors are done with high-end marble flooring and wood like teak and rosewood.
Construction experts say, the minimal cost to build such house would be Rs 3000 per sq ft. Thus the building alone costs more than 3.5 crores. The outdoors are done in granite flooring. The aforesaid costs do not include interior decorations and furniture. If that be included the cost will well run beyond Rs 4 crores. The house stands on purchased land.
More than 20,000 rupees are paid per annum in luxury tax for the house. The mansion sprawls over five plots registered with Edakkad village whose reserve numbers are : 91, 138,140, 384 and 387. The property ownership is registered to K Sadhakaran and Ajith Kumar. Ajith Kumar is a close relative of Sudhakaran.
The mega mansion stands in plain sight despite Sudhakaran insisting across TV channels that, MP salary was his sole source of income. Add to this his wife’s salary as a aided-school teacher. Still, the gap between legitimate money and construction cost is way too wide to bridge.
The mansion came up on radar during Vigilance probe on the complaint that Sudhkaran had collected 16 crores in overseas fundraising for acquisition of Charakal Rajas School back in 2010. Not so coincidentally, the construction of the house began in 2012.
