New Delhi : Manichan should serve 22 years plus a 9-month in jail should he fail to pay up fine in the Kalluvathikal hooch tragedy case, said government in its affidavit filed with the Supreme Court.
The fine stated in the sentencing cannot be exempted. As stated in the verdict, the penalty sum will be used to provide relief to families of the deceased victims, the govt informed court. In his sentencing, Manichan is required to stay life-imprisoned and pay Rs 30,40,000 in penalty.
Backdrop : The Kalluvathikal tragedy occurred 21st October, 2000. A total of 31 people died consuming poisonous liquor. Mannichan currently remains in jail.
