Thiruvananthapuram : The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) should take up cases only with knowledge of the state government, said CPI State Secretary Kanam Rajendran. The central police is taking up cases otherwise - a practice that is not right. CBI does not take up cases recommended by the state government and is bears a discriminative attitude on that count, said Kanam.
CBI is not V Muraleedharan’s family property. It is a national investigative agency. If CBI were to take up the case, should not investigation extend to Karnataka Chief Minister Yedurappa too? There is nothing wrong about state government denying trial consent for case against Cashew Development Corporation. Should there be trial, the government too should be convinced on its tangible grounds, Kanam told reporters.
We now have circumstance where CBI brushes off investigations urged by the state government. At the same time they actively take up cases outside the purview of state recommendation. The Supreme Court itself observed that CBI is being utilised for political purposes.
The agency is presently engaged in creating political smokescreens. The activity and such style of functioning should be put under legal scrutiny. The govt has been informed on the matter; there should be open discussions on the situation, said Kannam at the press meet on Saturday.
