Kozhikode : Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced state interim relief for families of those killed in the airplane tragedy that occurred late last evening. The plane crash is the most unfortunate accident to have happened, said CM at the press meet after visiting the injured at Kozhikode Medical College. The kin of each deceased will receive Rs 10 lakh in relief, while those hospitalised will have all their medical expenses borne by the state, CM announced.
There are currently 149 people availing treatment across 16 different hospitals in the city, 23 among whom are said to be in critical condition. 18 people including 14 elderly persons and 4 children had succumbed to their injuries after hospitalisation. Identities of all the deceased have been determined. The bodies of the two pilots will be flown back home by Air India.
Chief Minister commended rescue efforts on part of locals and personnel post the tragedy. CM was accompanied by Speaker Sreeramakrishnan, Ministers EP Jayarajan, KK Shailaja, Ramanchandran, Kadakampally, AK Sasheendran, TP Ramakrishnan, Chief Secretary Dr Vishwas Mehta and DGP Loknath Behera, during the visit.
The Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Pradeep Singh Puri, had earlier announced Rs 10 lakh in relief to the families of the dead. Rs 50,000 was also announced for victims with serious injuries.
