THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Kasaragod with state's largest number of COVID cases has added help arriving to bolster its fight against the epidemic. A 25-member doctors’ team from Trivandrum Medical College have left for Medical College in Ukkinadka in the district, missioned to transform the hospital’s Administrative Block into top-notch treatment centre for COVID-19.
Preparations have begun to set up a Intensive Care Unit and children’s ward at first-floor of the 4-storey building . The floor above this will be converted into rest rooms for doctors and other healthcare staff.
The govt has granted Rs 7 crore towards procurement of hospital equipments, cots, furniture and medical supplies for the upcoming facility. 200 beds and 90 cots apart from 12 cots required for ICU have already arrived at the block.
When ready in four days, three of the total four floors in the block will function as COVID exclusive space at the hospital. A total of 870 cots would be available in the district to confine the quarantined persons and those infected. Of this, 300 will come from the new facility that’s being set up currently. Since outbreak of the virus, govt had set up treatment centres at Kathankode District Hospital, Kasaragod General Hospital, Pannathadi Taluk Hospital, and Badhiduk Health Centre.
